Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral position within the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta. The successful postdoctoral fellow will be involved full-time on a project with the National Research Council in gathering, organizing, and synthesizing data related to all aspects and modes of transportation operations in Northern Canada, specifically focused on the Northwest Territories. The postdoctoral fellow will interact directly with other university researchers (including graduate and undergraduate students), government partners, private operators, and others in successfully carrying out this initiative. Travel to the territories (about 2 times per year) is required. Qualifications/expectations include the following:
- Background (and PhD) in engineering, natural sciences, or social sciences. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in the northern context and environment, but this is not a must.
- Demonstrated scholarly ability through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings and conferences.
- GIS and data analysis skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Ability and desire to communicate directly and frequently with government partners and private operators in gathering data and other information.
- Ability to work well in a team setting, to coordinate and collaborate in research involving researchers across disciplinary boundaries.
- Must work well independently, with excellent organizational skills, and be able to lead a research project.

Preferred start: Immediately, or in Fall 2020. Salary will be competitive and commensurate to experience.
